Two Injured in Victorville Car and Tractor-Trailer Crash

VICTORVILLE, CA – Two men were hospitalized after a 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo collided with a tractor-trailer Friday afternoon on Seventh Avenue in Victorville. The car and truck crash left the car’s driver with major injuries and forced authorities to close the roadway while emergency crews worked at the scene.

Deputies and firefighters were dispatched at about 3:21 p.m. Sept. 12 to Seventh Avenue between Nisqualli and Sitting Bull roads. They found the blue Monte Carlo extensively damaged against the side of a 2015 white Kenworth tractor-trailer.

Firefighters removed the driver from the wreckage before a helicopter flew him to a trauma center. His adult male passenger was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Authorities did not release either man’s name or provide a later update on their conditions.

Preliminary account described median crossing

Witnesses said the Monte Carlo had turned right from Sitting Bull Road onto Seventh Avenue and then appeared to lose control. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department offered a separate preliminary description after deputies began examining the collision.

Investigators said the car was traveling north on Seventh Avenue at a high rate of speed before it crossed the center median and struck the trailer of the southbound Kenworth. That account remained preliminary, and the department did not announce a final speed calculation or explain why the driver lost control.

The collision damaged the commercial vehicle and knocked one of the trailer’s wheels free. The truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with deputies. The report did not identify an injury to that driver or describe the cargo being carried.

The Monte Carlo had appeared earlier that day at Victorville’s Route 66 Car Show and Block Party, which was held several miles from the crash site. A photograph showed the same blue car on display before the collision, but authorities did not suggest that the event itself contributed to the crash.

Public works crews established a hard closure on Seventh Avenue between Nisqualli and Sitting Bull roads. The closure gave investigators room to document the damaged vehicles and allowed responders to address debris from the impact, including the detached trailer wheel.

The Sheriff’s Department had not announced a citation or arrest in its initial account. Investigators also had not determined whether alcohol played a role, leaving the cause and any responsibility unresolved while the Victorville station continued its review.
