Woman Killed in Encino Crash That Injured Five Others
ENCINO, CA – A woman died and five other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning at Ventura Boulevard and Densmore Avenue in Encino. Police said six people were taken to hospitals after the fatal intersection collision, and one of them later died.
The Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched firefighters and paramedics at 11:17 a.m. Sept. 12 to the 15800 block of West Ventura Boulevard. Its initial emergency advisory described six patients being assessed and treated as crews arranged transportation to area hospitals. Los Angeles police also responded and took responsibility for the investigation.

Firefighters Aided Encino Crash Victims
Video of the crash and rescue showed a heavily damaged white Lexus and blue Tesla with their airbags deployed. The Lexus stopped atop a Banc of California sign, while the Tesla came to rest on a curb.
Witness Mynor Lopez said he rushed outside after hearing a sound resembling an explosion and recorded the rescue. He said firefighters removed the Lexus roof to free a male occupant whose leg was trapped. A woman inside was not moving and was placed on a stretcher with a neck brace.
Lopez estimated that people in the Lexus were trapped for about 10 minutes before emergency medical crews arrived. He also described a man in the Tesla who was screaming and appeared unable to free his leg. A woman and a dog were in that car, he said.
The fallen bank sign trapped a person beneath it, according to the Fire Department. Lopez said roughly eight to 10 people lifted the sign to help that person get free.

Five Injured Hospitalized After Accident
An early police update described five patients who required immediate hospital transport and said a woman died after arriving. That account said four other patients remained hospitalized. By Saturday evening, police gave a total of six hospital transports, with one death and five people injured.
The woman who died was not publicly identified, and police did not release the conditions of the five surviving patients in the evening update. The accounts of the rescue did not establish which vehicle the woman who died had occupied.
While crews worked at the intersection, the Fire Department requested Department of Transportation assistance with traffic control. Ventura Boulevard was closed in both directions on either side of Densmore Avenue, and the department urged motorists to avoid the area and expect delays.
The road closure continued for the police investigation. Authorities had not announced what caused the vehicles to collide by Saturday evening, and responsibility for the crash remained unresolved.
