WEST RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, CA – Authorities have identified a woman who died Friday after a multi-vehicle collision near Rosecrans Avenue and Main Street.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office said Kiah Reed was 35 and died from traumatic injuries on a sidewalk. Her city of residence was not released. Authorities have not explained whether she was a driver, passenger or pedestrian.

California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department crews responded at about 2:10 p.m. Aug. 28. Paramedics took another person to a hospital in unknown condition.

Kiah Reed Crash Involved At Least Three Vehicles

A dispatch-based traffic report listed a black Audi, a brown Toyota Sienna and a red Tesla at the scene. The account said three or four vehicles may have been involved and described major damage near the intersection. MyNewsLA did not identify the vehicles in its reports.

The dispatch account also said occupants were reportedly trapped. It did not specify how many people required extrication. The published information does not identify which vehicle carried the hospitalized person or explain how Reed came to rest on the sidewalk.

The medical examiner attributed Reed’s death to traumatic injuries but did not publish an exact time of death. No report identifies the hospitalized person’s age or gender. Authorities also have not clarified whether any trapped occupant required a rescue from a vehicle.

Traffic lanes were blocked while emergency crews treated the victims and towing companies removed damaged vehicles. Public reports did not state how long the closure lasted. They also did not describe property damage beyond the vehicles.

One person was taken into custody

An early account said a person left the scene on foot and was last seen heading south on Main Street. MyNewsLA later reported that a suspect was taken into custody after briefly fleeing. Authorities have not released a name or description. They also have not stated how that person was connected to any vehicle.

The CHP has not announced the cause of the collision. With several vehicles involved, investigators must establish the order of impacts before reaching a final account. Vehicle damage and final resting positions can help separate the first contact from later collisions. Any recordings from the intersection could also show the signal sequence and each vehicle’s approach.

Reed’s identification resolves one previously unanswered part of the case, but her role in the crash remains unknown. The hospitalized person’s condition has not been updated. No allegation reported in the early accounts establishes fault, and the CHP investigation remained open.
