Sacramento, California – Police in Elk Grove report that a 31-year-old suspect has been detained in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a motorist who had stopped to deal with a flat tire.
According to authorities, the incident occurred Tuesday night on Bruceville Road, in the stretch between Bilby Road and Boa Nova Drive. Investigators say a 61-year-old man had pulled over on the west shoulder and was in the process of fixing his disabled vehicle when a Dodge pickup struck him. The driver did not remain at the scene and continued on after the impact.
Emergency responders transported the injured man to a nearby medical center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives identified the alleged driver as Kushmit Singh. On Wednesday, officers executed a search at a residence close to where the crash occurred and located a Dodge pickup inside the garage that showed signs consistent with involvement in the collision.
Authorities booked Singh into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a felony charge of hit-and-run causing death or serious injury. Custody records indicate he was released the following day.
