[02-20-2026] Sacramento County – Driver Injured After Overpass Crash Onto Highway 99 in Sacramento
Sacramento, California — A driver was hospitalized Thursday night after their vehicle crashed off an overpass and onto Highway 99 in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m., when the driver reportedly veered off the Martin Luther King Jr. overpass and fell onto the northbound lanes of Highway 99. Authorities stated that the vehicle broke through a protective fence before going over the edge, sending debris into the southbound lanes below.
CHP officials confirmed that the driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
However, the falling debris created a hazardous situation for other motorists traveling on the southbound side of Highway 99. Several vehicles struck the debris before emergency crews were able to respond and clear the roadway.
The debris temporarily blocked multiple southbound lanes, contributing to late-night traffic delays in the area. By approximately 11 p.m., traffic was reported to be moving again in both directions.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Is Compensation Available After a One-Car Crash in California?
Yes, compensation may still be available after a one-car crash in California, depending on the circumstances surrounding the accident. While solo crashes are often assumed to be the driver’s fault, there are many situations where other parties may be legally responsible. For example, poor road conditions, defective vehicle parts, dangerous construction zones, or even another driver who fled the scene can all contribute to a single-vehicle accident. A qualified car accident lawyer in Sacramento can investigate the cause of the crash and determine whether you may be eligible to recover damages.
Additionally, if your accident was caused by a mechanical failure, negligent maintenance, or a hazardous roadway design, you may have a claim against a manufacturer, government entity, or third-party contractor. Speaking with an experienced personal injury lawyer in Sacramento can help you understand your legal options and whether compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages may be available.
