[02-18-2026] San Diego County – Hit-and-Run Crash in Lemon Grove Injures Two Minors
Lemons Grove, California – Authorities with the California Highway Patrol are looking into a hit-and-run crash that occurred Sunday evening in Lemon Grove, leaving two young passengers with significant injuries.
The collision happened around 8:06 p.m. on February 15 along State Route 94 near the Massachusetts Avenue off-ramp. Investigators say a 33-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Suzuki Aerio westbound with two children inside. She had stopped at the end of the off-ramp while waiting to make a left turn at a red signal.
Ahead of the Suzuki was a Chevrolet Blazer driven by a 51-year-old woman, and in front of that vehicle was a Honda Pilot operated by a 53-year-old man.
According to CHP officials, a 2000 Lexus RX300 traveling westbound approached from behind and struck the Suzuki. The force of the rear-end impact pushed the Suzuki forward, causing a chain-reaction crash involving both the Chevrolet and the Honda.
After the collision, the Lexus driver reportedly left the scene without stopping or providing assistance.
Emergency crews transported the Suzuki’s driver to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The two juvenile passengers were taken to Rady’s Children’s Hospital with major injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized, while the Honda driver was unharmed.
The CHP’s El Cajon office is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the suspect vehicle to contact them at 619-219-6900.

How Can Victims Claim Compensation After a Four-Vehicle Crash Caused by a Hit-and-Run Driver?
When a hit-and-run driver causes a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles, injured victims still have legal options—even if the at-fault driver initially cannot be identified. The first step is to report the collision to law enforcement and seek immediate medical attention. A police report and medical records create critical documentation that supports your injury claim.
If the fleeing driver is later identified, you may pursue a claim directly against their insurance. However, in many hit-and-run cases, victims must turn to their own uninsured motorist (UM) coverage. In California, UM policies often apply when the responsible driver leaves the scene. An experienced car accident lawyer in San Diego can review your insurance policy, determine available coverage, and handle negotiations with the insurance company to prevent undervaluation of your claim.
Because multi-vehicle crashes often involve complex liability issues, it is important to determine whether other drivers may share fault. Comparative negligence rules in California allow victims to recover damages even if multiple parties contributed to the collision. A skilled personal injury lawyer in San Diego can investigate the sequence of impacts, obtain surveillance footage, review vehicle damage patterns, and work with accident reconstruction experts when necessary.
Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost income, property damage, pain and suffering, and future treatment needs. In serious injury cases, long-term rehabilitation and diminished earning capacity may also be considered.
