Man fatally shot in East Oakland

OAKLAND — A 34-year-old man was fatally shot in East Oakland Wednesday night, authorities said.

The man’s name has not yet been released pending notification of his family.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of 77th Avenue near where the man lived, authorities said.

The man was shot after getting into a dispute with another person, authorities said. Police have not said what the dispute was about.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The suspect fled before police got to the scene.  No suspect information was released.

The killing is the 42nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 50 homicides in the city.
