STANDING BY FOR THAT, BUT WE WANT TO START WITH KCRA 3’S. BRITTANY, HOPE. YEAH. BRITTANY IS WHERE CREWS ARE MOPPING UP A GRASS FIRE THAT WAS THREATENING BUILDINGS AT ONE POINT TODAY. THIS IS RIGHT ALONG DEL PASO AND EL CENTRO ROADS IN THE NORTH. NATOMAS AREA OF SACRAMENTO. SO BRITTANY, WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE NOW? DOES IT LOOK LIKE THE WINDS HAVE DIED DOWN MUCH FROM THE NOON HOUR? OH, THE WINDS ARE REALLY GUSTING AT THIS POINT. IN FACT, IT’S BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE WE’VE BEEN HERE FOR THE PAST HOUR OR SO. NOW. WHAT WAS COULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY SCARY SITUATION. LUCKILY, HAS PRETTY MUCH BEEN MOPPED UP THANKS TO FIREFIGHTERS. SO WE’LL SHOW YOU WHERE WE ARE ON EL PASO ROAD, JUST TO THE LEFT OF ME RIGHT NOW IS THIS MASSIVE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. YOU WRAP AROUND THIS WAY. IT IS ALL OF THIS GRASS AND THESE BIG DRY FIELDS THAT POSED A BIG ISSUE WHEN JUST BEHIND US, THAT CAR OVER THERE, YOU CAN SEE THAT’S NOW TOTALLY CHARRED UP. IT HAD SOME SORT OF MECHANICAL ISSUE. IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THAT’S WHEN FIRE CREWS SAY THAT THESE HEAVY WINDS PICKED UP THE FLAMES FROM THAT CAR QUICKLY SPREAD TO THIS FIELD RIGHT HERE. AND IT ALSO JUMPED ACROSS EL PASO ROAD BEHIND THIS HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. LUCKILY, THERE’S A MAN MADE LAKE THERE. AND IT WASN’T WHERE HOMES ARE. SO AT THIS POINT, ALL OF THE HOMES ARE SAFE. BUT YOU CAN SEE THIS FIELD HERE. AND THAT CAR. YEAH, THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS AT THIS POINT. IT SEEMS ABOUT AN ACRE AND A HALF OF LAND HERE HAS BURNED. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PERSON WHO WAS INSIDE OF THAT CAR. YOU CAN SEE THERE’S REALLY NOT A LOT LEFT. OH, LOOKS LIKE SMUD IS ACTUALLY SHOWING UP RIGHT NOW. WE HAVEN’T GOTTEN ANY REPORTS OF POWER OUTAGES YET IN THIS AREA, BUT THE UTILITY CREW IS HERE ON THE SCENE. A LOT OF TIMES WHEN WE HAVE FIRE UNDER UTILITY POLES AND LINES LIKE THIS, THEY HAVE TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE THEIR INTEGRITY IS OKAY AND THEY’RE NOT TO RISK IT FALLING. SO WE’LL CHECK TO SEE IF THERE’S ANY OUTAGES HERE RIGHT NOW. BUT BACK TO THAT CAR THAT YOU’RE SEEING RIGHT NOW A TOTAL LOSS. THE PERSON THAT WAS NEAR THAT CAR SUSTAINED SOME BURN INJURIES AND WAS BROUGHT TO THE HOSPITAL. ALL BUT THAT PERSON IS EXPECTED TO BE OKAY. WHAT HAPPENED OUT HERE IS JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT UNFORTUNATELY, WE CAN EXPECT WHEN THE WINDS ARE THIS POWERFUL AND WHEN WE’RE IN THIS TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT, IF YOU HAVE ANY SORT OF SPARK, WHETHER IT’S FROM A LAWN MOWER, MAYBE CAR ISSUES, THE WIND IS GOING TO PICK IT UP LIKE IT’S DOING WITH MY HAIR AND SPREAD IT ELSEWHERE. SO THIS WAS A CASE. LUCKILY, THE HOMES HERE ARE SAFE. BUT THAT CAR AND THAT FIELD. YEAH, IT’S NOT LOOKING TOO GOOD. WE’RE REPORTING ON EL PASO ROAD BR
