Big-rig leaking fuel on Highway 99 causes major backup

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A big-rig truck leaking fuel following a crash has caused a major traffic jam on southbound Highway 99 near a major Fresno County highway interchange.

Caltrans says the multi-vehicle crash happened on southbound Highway 99, just south of the Highway 180 interchange, on Friday morning.

Eastbound and Westbound Highway 180 connector ramps to southbound Highway 99 are closed, according to Caltrans.

A truck believed to be involved in the crash is currently stuck on an embankment on the right side of Highway 99 and is leaking diesel fuel.

The Fresno Fire Department says its HAZMAT team was called out to help in the clean up.

Drivers are advised to find alternative routes as traffic is backed up to Ashlan Avenue, according to Caltrans.

It’s unknown how long the closure will last.
