1 arrested after deadly Sacramento hit-and-run

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was arrested Friday in midtown Sacramento after a hit-and-run left another man dead.

Joe Earl Johnson, 41, allegedly hit a 32-year-old man with his vehicle around 16th Street and Uptown Alley and left the scene around 1 a.m., according to a news release posted by the Sacramento Police Department.

Johnson was located on the 2300 block of Broadway around 7 p.m. and safely taken into custody, police said. He was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail and faces a felony hit-and-run charge, jail records show.

His bail is set at $500,000 and he is expected to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.

The 32-year-old man died Monday in the hospital, police said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after his family is notified.
